Maintain a healthy body weight
Body mass index (BMI) 20-25kg/m²
Keep physically active
Help maintain body weight, keep blood sugars stable and blood fats such as cholesterol down. Exercise is also thought to help us feel good and is important for strong, healthy bones.
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Aim for at least 5 portions a day. The more variety you have the more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants you will consume. Fruit and vegetables are also a good low fat snack option and are high in fibre.
Eat fewer fatty and sugar-containing foods
Such as fried foods, sweets and pastries. Instead try to choose lean meat, poultry, fish, beans and low-fat dairy foods, like skimmed or semi-skimmed milk or low-fat yogurt
Choose products lower in salt
Use less salt in cooking and seasoning.
And of course porridge oats are a great all round option for a healthy lifestyle.
Oats can be used to make your morning bowl of porridge or added as an ingredient to food.
